Universal Systems is hiring a Senior Systems Administrator to join our Professional Services team in Salt Lake City.

You’ll own the reliability, security, and ongoing improvement of assigned client environments, serving as the senior technical escalation point for complex issues. This is a hands-on role spanning Microsoft cloud services, servers, identity, endpoints, networking, backups, and virtualization.

You’ll also lead technical work across client onboardings, acquisition integrations, migrations, and office builds. The role is based at our Salt Lake City headquarters, with work at client locations and participation in a rotating after-hours and weekend on-call schedule.

What you’ll do

  • Own the health, security, recoverability, capacity, and documentation of assigned client environments.

  • Resolve complex technical escalations, identify root causes, and prevent recurring issues.

  • Administer Microsoft 365, including Entra ID, Conditional Access, licensing, Exchange Online, Teams, and SharePoint Online.

  • Build, secure, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows Server, Active Directory, and Hyper-V or VMware infrastructure.

  • Manage backup operations, verify job completion, test restores, and document recovery objectives.

  • Administer firewalls, VLANs, VPNs, wireless networks, switching, and core network services.

  • Manage endpoint enrollment, compliance, configuration, and application deployment through Microsoft Intune.

  • Lead vulnerability remediation, patching, endpoint detection and response alert triage, incident response, and security improvements.

  • Lead client onboardings, acquisition integrations, migrations, office builds, and infrastructure modernization projects.

  • Maintain accurate diagrams, configurations, standards, runbooks, and environment records.

  • Explain technical risks, priorities, outages, and changes clearly to client leadership.

  • Support on-site networking and installation projects and participate in the team’s on-call rotation.

What you’ll bring

  • Demonstrated experience independently managing production infrastructure across multiple technology areas.

  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Conditional Access, Exchange Online, Teams, and SharePoint Online.

  • Strong Windows Server and Active Directory administration skills, including security hardening, patching, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management.

  • Production experience with Intune, networking, backup and recovery, and Hyper-V or VMware.

  • Experience leading incident response and root-cause analysis, with lasting corrective action.

  • Ability to plan and execute migrations, integrations, and infrastructure projects with clear documentation and change control.

  • Clear written and verbal communication with technical teams and business leaders.

  • Ability to travel to client sites and participate in an on-call rotation.

Helpful experience

  • Working in an MSP, consulting, or multi-client environment.

  • Supporting acquisitions, multi-site organizations, tenant migrations, and office buildouts.

  • Using Microsoft Defender, Sentinel, Purview, PowerShell, and automation.

  • Applying NIST CSF 2.0, vulnerability management, endpoint detection and response, and security controls.

  • Relevant Microsoft, networking, security, or virtualization certifications.

What success looks like

You take ownership without needing step-by-step direction and know when to raise a risk or request peer review. You diagnose problems across systems, document what others need to know, and leave environments better than you found them.

Client systems are reliable, secure, and recoverable. Backup and restore tests are verified, recurring incidents decline, and security findings reach resolution. Projects are planned, communicated, tested, and validated, with clear rollback steps. Your teammates benefit from usable documentation, consistent standards, and practical technical guidance.
